With so many options for your images how do you choose?

It used to be that after a photo session you'd receive a "proof book" from your photographer. It was simply a 4x6 print slipped into a plastic sleeve along with a way for you to mark with a pen or pencil what size print you wanted and how many of it. Those days have changed!

Today, a bride, a family, couple, or whatever the client is gets choices like never before and delivered in new ways. Inspired Media makes these new options easy to access and understand. The ordering process takes minutes instead of weeks and delivery can be anywhere from instant to a few days. Options for products you can choose after your photo session include gift size prints like a 5x7 or 8x10, wall art like 16x20 print, canvas, metal print, or even acrylic, albums, video, and the list goes on...

Let's take a moment and walk you through some of the options and procedures we use here at Inspired Media.

DIGITAL IMAGES vs. PRINT IMAGES

This is the area that has changed the most over the years. Of course both have pluses and minuses. Let's start with the question most often asked. "Do I get digital images included with my package?" With Inspired Media the answer is YES! But what does that really mean?

There are 2 kinds of digital images being used today. Web resolution and print resolution. When viewed in the correct environment they look identical. So what is the difference? It comes down to how that image file is viewed. Everyone it seems has dozens or hundreds of photos at instant access on phones, tablets, and PCs. The files used for those devices need to be such that they load quickly and look great, are viewable by all devices, and can be posted online for others to easily view. Those are web resolution image files. Yes, you can print these BUT they probably won't look good. They are not intended to be printed.

Print resolution image files will look exactly the same, but they print perfect at a variety of sizes. The devices we view images on are made up of very small "dots". If you're old enough remember newspaper photos, you could actually see the dots on the paper. Your device works the same way. Our phones, tablets and the web work at 72 DPI (dots per inch). Images created with that resolution (or similar) look amazing on your device. Print resolution is 300DPI. That means the file size is MUCH larger and includes more data. Fine art prints can even be as much as 1000DPI.

With Inspired Media we understand that everyone wants to be able to share their images with others. That's why we ALWAYS give you the web resolution images for FREE! As a full service photographer that also offers prints, we do not give free print resolution images. Our print lab is amazing and we want to make sure you get the very best quality print available today.

Another question we are often asked is "What if I want to print more pictures at some point in the future and my gallery has expired?" Good question! We do offer a Digital Print Buyout" option for just that. Depending on your session type that buyout is either $499 or $999. When you purchase that option you receive BOTH web resolution and print resolution files. It is your responsibility to download and safeguard those images. This option gives you permission to print from any vendor for life.

Our next blog entry will jump into what the different print product options we offer are. We have some AMAZING products! Keep watching.
