Claire and Nick’s wedding at Briar Barns in Sparta, Michigan was the perfect example of how thoughtful planning, an incredible venue, and an experienced photography team come together to create an unforgettable wedding day.

From the quiet moments getting ready to a glowing sunset over the fields, every part of their day reflected who they are while giving them the freedom to simply enjoy being present with the people they love.

Claire spent the morning getting ready in the spacious loft above the barn. With plenty of light and room for everyone to spread out, it created a relaxed atmosphere where the excitement of the day could unfold naturally. Instead of feeling rushed or cramped, everyone had space to enjoy the morning together.

Meanwhile, Nick and his groomsmen had their own dedicated getting-ready space in the venue’s large tent area. Having separate, comfortable locations for both wedding parties helps keep the morning organized and stress-free—something that always sets the tone for the rest of the day.

A Ceremony Surrounded by Nature

One of the standout features of Briar Barns is its beautiful outdoor ceremony location.

Claire and Nick exchanged vows beneath a stunning canopy of mature trees that created natural shade while providing an intimate backdrop for family and friends. The peaceful setting allowed everyone to focus on what mattered most—the commitment these two were making to one another.

One of the things we love most about venues like Briar Barns is the flexibility they offer. While the ceremony space is beautiful on its own, the property also includes an incredible covered location beneath one of the barns featuring hundreds of hanging lights. Whether used as a weather backup or simply as a creative portrait location, it’s a space that photographs beautifully day or night.

Having multiple stunning locations within walking distance gives couples options throughout the day without sacrificing valuable time traveling between portrait spots.

Portrait Locations Around Every Corner

One of the biggest advantages of photographing weddings at Briar Barns is the variety of scenery available on the property.

We explored several outdoor locations for bridal party portraits and family photos, allowing us to create a gallery with plenty of variety while keeping everything efficient for Claire and Nick.

The venue offers landscaped areas, rustic barn exteriors, open green spaces, and quiet corners that each provide a unique look without requiring couples to leave the property.

Our favorite location, however, came later in the evening.

As the sun began to drop, we made our way to the expansive open field at the edge of the property. Framed by a line of trees in the background, the field becomes absolutely magical during golden hour. The warm evening light creates soft, flattering portraits that feel natural and timeless while allowing couples a few quiet moments together away from the celebration.

For Claire and Nick, these became some of the most memorable images of the entire day—not because they were heavily posed, but because they simply had the opportunity to slow down, breathe, and enjoy being newly married.

Those genuine moments are often the ones couples treasure most years later.

A Sparkler Exit That Led to One More Celebration

Briar Barns Sparkler Exit

As the evening came to a close, Claire and Nick gathered outside with their family and friends for a classic sparkler exit. Guests lined the walkway, creating a tunnel of light as the newlyweds made their way through cheers, laughter, and one final unforgettable moment at Briar Barns.

But their night didn’t end there.

Instead of heading straight home, Claire and Nick turned their grand exit into the beginning of another celebration. Their bridal party joined them as they continued walking down the long driveway, across the street, and into a local tavern where the celebration carried on well into the night.

It was the perfect ending because it felt completely true to who they are. Rather than letting the energy of the day fade after the last dance, they shared one more experience with the people who had been by their side from the beginning.

These are the moments we love documenting most—not because they’re part of a traditional wedding timeline, but because they’re the moments couples remember years later. After photographing hundreds of weddings, we’ve learned that some of the best memories happen after everyone thinks the day is over. By anticipating those moments and staying present through every part of the celebration, we help couples relive not only the milestones, but the genuine joy that makes their wedding uniquely theirs.
